The Big Contest Hall Chaos!
Item stolen: Design for a wedding dress
As the episode begins we find Haneoka Meimi posing for us, and her classmates, as she is
all excited about being the model for her friends wedding dress design. The dress is being
entered in the "Junior Design Contest" by Meimi’s classmate Miki-chan. Asuka Jr. looks
dubious at this honor and wonders what sort of frog bride Meimi will make. Meimi
explodes, calling him rude, and the usual argument takes place. As Meimi gives up on the
conversation she turns in time to catch Rina watching her from the window. Rina sees her
and bolts.
We then see Meimi, obviously leaving for the day, being followed by Rina. When
confronted Rina says she just happens to be going this way. Meimi is not convinced and at
the next turning takes the opportunity to make her escape by running from the building.
The trick works.
Meimi arrives at the chapel, panting from her run, and is scolded by nun-in-training Seira
for being loud in church. Meimi explains to Seira she’s been shadowed by Rina for some
time and has only now lost her. But even as Seira is commenting on Rina’s persistence
Meimi has moved onto the fact that the wedding dress should be done today, and is once
again excited. Seira says that she was recently talking to Miki-chan and explains to Meimi
that a rival at school has taken the design for the dress. There is a flash back to a group of
girls, and one of them, Suzushiro-san, trips Miki-chan, making the unfortunate girl spill the
contents of her notebook. In the confusion another of the girls lifts the design and
Miki-chan runs away, not yet knowing the design is gone. Miki-chan explains to Seira that
Suzushiro-san’s contestant number is lower than her own, and so Miki-chan will look like
the copycat, and not the other way around. Seira advises her to trust that God will take
care of those in the right.
Meimi understands, but feels bad for herself. Seira asks her to steal back the design, to
which Meimi readily agrees, but then begins to doubt her chances as Rina is following her
so closely. Seira says she will help Meimi, this time, and will be her alibi. Meimi is
pleasantly surprised by the offer. Seira begins explaining her role by telling Meimi to send
the challenge to Asuka Jr.…
We then see Asuka Jr. reading the school bulletin board, which include an advertisement
for the "Junior Design Contest". Rina is close at hand, asking him if he wants to know who
Saint Tail is. Asuka Jr. yells at her, annoyed that she won’t back off. He tells her that he
doesn’t want to know her identity, he only wants to catch her. Rina pouts and leaves him
alone. Asuka Jr. turns back to the notices, and walks into the wall was he read the last
one, which is the challenge from Saint Tail:"Tomorrow at the Junior Design Contest, I’ll come for Suzushiro Mami’s design and
wedding dress. Saint Tail"
Rina suddenly appears and announces she’s been expecting the challenge. She goes on to
say she’ll be acting on her own. Asuka Jr. tells her to do as she likes.
That night, at the Haneoka house, Meimi’s father, Genruchi, is admiring a picture of
himself and Eimi, his wife that was taken at their wedding. Using his magic he tries to turn
back time and make Eimi as cute as she was. He opens his eyes to find Meimi, in the
wedding dress, smiling at him. For an instant he thinks his magic has worked! Meimi
explains about the contest, and happily dances from the room. Genruchi reflects on the
fact that Meimi will get married some day, and Eimi chides him for his morose thoughts.
Meimi takes off the dress saying to herself that tomorrow she will be both Saint Tail, and a
bride, and that she will do her best at both.
The next day at the contest Suzushiro-san questions Asuka Jr., making sure that he will be
protecting her. He says he will, and that until the contest begins she is safe. The three girls
pushy manners make him wonder if they will actually need protection.
Meanwhile, in the dressing room Rina is making sure that Meimi is present, and then tries
to locate a phone to contact Asuka Jr. with should the need arise. A woman then tells her
to leave as the room is for contestants only. Rina does, but positions herself outside the
door where she can easily watch. Miki-chan gets some much needed reassurance from
her friends that it is ok for her to compete in the contest. At that point Suzushiro-san
forces her way into the room, her model, in Miki-chan’s design, in tow. Some words are
exchanged between the girls, and then the announcement that the contestants should come
to the stage is heard and Miki-chan leaves Seira and Meimi to change into the dress.
Rina watches from the door as Seira and Meimi go into a dressing room where Meimi
becomes Saint Tail, and Seira becomes Meimi in a wedding dress. Seira wonders if this is
a good thing for a nun to do!
Rina wonders what the two are doing since they seem to be taking so long, when a man
asks her why she isn’t dressed since her looks are those of a model and he pulls her away
from the door. Saint Tail takes the opportunity to escape, and hides herself under on of
the wedding dresses. Seira, in a wig, takes a seat with her back to the door and waits for
Saint Tail to finish her theft. Rina returns to find what she thinks is Meimi sitting before a
mirror with her back to the door.
On stage the weddings dresses are beginning to be modeled when Miki-chan’s design
seemingly floats from Suzushiro-san’s notebook. As the Asuka Jr. and the others watch
the design floats out into the hall. Rina, back at the dressing room is wondering why Meimi
hasn’t changes into Saint Tail yet and moves to investigate. Seira prays for Meimi to finish
her part. In the hall Asuka Jr. watches as the design is caught by Saint Tail who turns the
hall lights off. Rina, moving in on the bogus Meimi is interrupted in her task by Asuka Jr.
calling on the phone, demanding to know where she is and what she’s doing. He informs
her that Saint Tail is in the hall, which she deems impossible was Meimi is still here in the
dressing room. Miki-chan arrives to escort Meimi to the hall, as Rina rushes out, and
Miki-chan follows. Seira, relieved, removes the wig and prepares for the next phase of the
alibi.
It’s Show Time!
With the aid of her magic wand Saint Tail replaces the copied dress with a dinosaur suit.
Saint Tail tells the startled model to wear that instead as Suzushiro-san and Asuka Jr.
arrive. Saint Tail says she’ll return the design and dress to the original owner, at which
point Asuka Jr. rounds on Suzushiro-san, demanding to know what Saint Tail meant.
Saint Tail then releases bouquets to the crowd in apology for upsetting the contest. As she
makes good her escape Asuka Jr. turns to follow her, only to be overwhelmed by the
press of women after the bouquets. Amid the crowd he finds a bewildered Rina, amazed
that Saint Tail got the better of her. Asuka Jr. asks her why she’s just standing there and
she tells him to mind his own business. Seira, on the balcony and in her street clothes,
releases an escape balloon, complete with Saint Tail into the sky, just in time for Asuka Jr.
and Rina to see. Rina is still unconvinced and rushes back to the dressing room, followed
by a reluctant Asuka Jr. As they enter the room Asuka Jr. is arrested by the sight of
Meimi in the wedding dress. Miki-chan asks him is she isn’t beautiful, which Meimi
protests the asking of. Asuka Jr. agrees, "Pretty…" and then explains he means the
design. Even Seira face-faults. He then tries to change the subject to hide his
embarrassment.
An annoyed Rina commands him to leave, and he, happy for the distraction, follows.
Meimi’s turn on stage comes and Asuka Jr. watches the three girls head for the stage.
Turning he follows them, telling Rina to go ahead without him.
Miki-chan is announced the winner as Asuka Jr. watches from the balcony. He wonders
aloud why it is that Meimi seems so different in the wedding dress. Rina appears and asks
him what he would think if Meimi were Saint Tail. He can’t credit the assumption but
when Rina says she’s willing to bet on it he accuses her of harassing Meimi. Rina,
nonplused, says if she’s wrong, she’ll leave Meimi alone, but if she’s right, Asuka Jr. will
go out with her. Even Asuka Jr. is surprised by this indelicate bet, but he accepts. Turning
back to the stage he once again looks at Meimi, and wonders if Rina is right.
