As we open Lina is asking Meimi about Asuka Jr.; does he go to this school?
In homeroom Lina opens the door declaring that she's found Asuka Jr. The class turns as one to observe the new comer. Lina rushes to Asuka Jr., hugging him. Asuka Jr. asks why she's here and she says she's been searching for him since ‘that day’. She goes on to say that he was probably hard to find because he's so short. Asuka Jr. demands she answer his question before picking a fight.
Seira asks Meimi who that is, and a very annoyed Meimi says she'll explain later and that Lina is no longer in need of her services as school guide.
Meanwhile Lina is rubbing the top of Asuka Jr.'s head, like you would a little kid, until he slaps her hand away. Meimi fumes silently across the room as Lina goes to the board and writes out her name, introducing herself. The class whispers comments on her height, probable age, her style, if she's a model... at which point Lina stops the speculation and says that when she grows up she wants to be a policewoman. This attracts Seira's attention, and as Lina goes on to say that bad people should be captured, including Saint Tail, Seira can't help but turn to Meimi.
Asuka Jr. then rises from his desk announcing, yet again. that he will be the one to capture Saint Tail. One of Asuka Jr.'s friends comes to his aid, saying that the mayor gave Asuka Jr. a badge and special license to capture Saint Tail. Lina slyly reminds Asuka Jr. that she is the mayor's niece. Lina says that all she has to do is ask him for a favor. Seira smiles to see all this and thinks Saint Tail isn't going to be caught so easily. She turns to Meimi, thinking poor Saint Tail is their target, only to find Meimi raging about Lina clinging to Asuka Jr.
Later that day in the chapel Sister Seira is seen talking to an archaeologist who works for the Crown Center Museum. He confides in Seira that the dagger of Yat, which will soon be on display, is not an artifact but a replica made by him. Seira is shocked. The man explains that he was asked to make it by the director, never once thinking the man was going to try and pass the item off as genuine. He fears an investigation in which he could be implicated. Seira tells him that God will forgive him since he came forward.
We then see Meimi and Seira in the bell tower where Meimi agrees to recover the dagger, and then bursts into flames, literally, in her desire to prove herself to Asuka Jr. and Lina.
At home dad is working on a new trick which Meimi declines to see, asking instead to borrow his confetti trick. She then puts together a challenge for Asuka Jr., with an evil look in her eyes.
Next day at lunch Lina asks Asuka Jr. if she can join him, and we see Meimi break her chopsticks on the desk in frustration. Asuka Jr. says no, as she'll want part of his lunch if he allows it. Lina laughs and says she won't even as Asuka Jr. opens his bento. Out flies a shower of confetti and in his rice is written: "Tonight I will take the Dagger of Yat from the Center Museum. Saint Tail".
Lina says this is a nice note from a common thief as Asuka Jr. hastily closes the box. Drawn by the noise Asuka Jr.'s friends gather around and try to steal his lunch. A fight then breaks out over the lunch. Seira, joining Meimi at her desk, asks if Meimi has broken her chopsticks, and Meimi laughs it off nervously.
That night at the museum Asuka Jr. meets the director, the same man who had the dagger made. The young detective asks to be allowed to see the dagger and is lead into the exhibit. It seems the dagger had a pyramid display room all its own. As they move towards it the director thinks that if the knife is stolen it will be exposed for the forgery that it is.
Within the pyramid cameras are trained all around and Asuka Jr. is told that his officers are in place. The policeman asks if Asuka Jr. wants anyone placed in the pyramid but Asuka Jr. says he will take this room himself as Saint Tail favors an entrance from a height. He then gets permission from the director to hide in a (hopefully fake) sarcophagus. The set up, he says, is good in that the area is so small. At that moment Lina arrives and tells him to take more extreme measures. Asuka Jr. tells her she's in the way to which Lina produces a letter from the mayor: "Asuka-kun, please take care of my niece Lina. I'm sure she can be of help. Please make use of her. The Mayor, Morinaka Hideo." Asuka Jr. almost swoons, while Lina goes on about her plans.
Eye Catch
Exterior view of the chapel where we see Meimi become Saint Tail. As she races for the museum she tells herself that she will not fail.
At the museum she finds there are only guards on the entrance; no challenge for Saint Tail! Dropping down onto the point of the pyramid Saint Tail climbs inside and.
"It's Showtime!"
Conjuring playing cards she flings them at the various cameras around the room, breaking the lenses. In the control room the screens go to snow, only to be replaced by the sort of card they put on TV when they are 'experiencing operating difficulties'. Lina is incensed!
(The following actions happen simultaneously so it might appear disjointed.)
Back in the Pyramid Asuka Jr. sees Saint Tail drop to the floor and make for the case. He thinks that as soon as she touches it the chase will be over and she will be his. Next we see Lina picking up what can only be described as a bazooka gun. Hefting it Lina runs for the pyramid. She thinks Saint Tail is making fun of them and no longer wants to wait for Asuka Jr.'s plan. While in the pyramid Saint Tail's fingers touch the case, and Asuka Jr. explodes from his hiding place and leaps for her.
Saint Tail is totally taken by surprise. We see Lina, sighting on the pyramid, as Asuka Jr. grabs Saint Tail's wrist. Lina pulls the trigger and a canister of gas is fired into the pyramid. As the canister clatters to the ground both Asuka Jr. and Saint Tail turn in surprise, and then fall to the floor as the fumes begin to spread. Saint Tail pulls the ribbon from her ponytail to breath through while Asuka Jr. tries to hold his breath. Looking through the fog he sees Saint Tail not far away, and leaping forward, throws his arms around her. Saint Tail does not resist, while in the gallery Lina closes a steel door, sealing off the pyramid and trapping the gas inside.
Here is one of the really romantic scenes from the series. We see Asuka Jr. on his knees before Saint Tail, clutching her to his chest. The only sound at first it the beating of her heart, and then the music swells. Mentally Saint Tail wonders why she is allowing this to happen. She should run, and think how easy it would be, but still she doesn’t move. There's no doubt in her mind he'll see her face, and yet she is exactly where she longs to be and is unwilling to move.
Drawing away from her, breaking the spell, Asuka Jr. looks at her, only to find it was tear gas that was shot into the room and his eyes will not focus. His tears spill onto her upturned face and when she opens her eyes she discovers Asuka Jr.’s face is awash with tears.
Lina then peers into the room, sure the gas will have cleared by now, and sees Asuka Jr. holding Saint Tail. With a howl she punches down the steel door and rushes to Asuka Jr., demanding to know why he let Saint Tail go. He pretty much wants to know the same thing, but Lina forestalls him but punching him for being so close to Saint Tail. An officer rushes in, announcing that the dagger is gone. Both Asuka Jr. and Lina race back into the museum, calling for Saint Tail.
Saint Tail is high above them, and calls down that she will be taking the dagger. We see her, with the dagger in her mouth (this looks quite silly) as she conjures her wand and hat. With a flourish Saint Tail makes her escape in a shower of peacock feather. Lina is looking up, still metaphorically shaking her fist, while Asuka Jr. is yelling, facing the wrong direction, for Saint Tail to stop. Lina asks him what he is doing and he complains that he still can't see thanks to her. Lina says that he had hung onto Saint Tail she would not have escaped, but Asuka Jr. says he doesn't need tear gas to catch Saint Tail. Whirling to another completely wrong direction he declares, yet again, that he will be the one to catch her. Lina tells him to do as he pleases, and as he races forward in pursuit we see him hit a wall.
The next morning at the museum we Asuka Heiji arrive, only to be yelled at by the director. The director wants to know how they could have allowed the knife to be stolen, etc etc. And when it appears Asuka Heiji is not listening the man rounds on him. Asuka Heiji seems to be admiring a picture and says, "Ah, nice picture... I wonder if this is a fake too." The director has to back down.
At school Lina is berating Saint Tail for stealing a fake, but Asuka Jr. comes to the thief’s defense and says Saint Tail knew it was a fake and she was once again helping someone. Lina thinks this is pretty stupid and wants to know how Asuka Jr. knows and he says it's simple, he just knows because he's be chasing her.
Leaving the room he passes Meimi in the hall and she say that he was crying last night. Surprised he asks her how she knows and she says his eyes are red. Embarrassed he begins scrubbing them with an arm as Meimi asks the reason for his tears. "Guys have their problems too," he says and hurries off. Meimi watches him go, smiling fondly to herself , thinking that it was on account of his being so nice that he's all bleary eyed.
This picture bears repeating. ^_^
