"Big fuss over a photo scoop during the school festival"
Item stolen: A roll of film.The episode opens with preparations being made for the school festival. Meanwhile, in homeroom the girls are discussing the ‘legend’ associated with the festival, namely, if you get the lock from the boy you like’s locker and lock it on the east side fence on the roof you will dance with him at the bonfire. One of the girls then produces "… the one and only Mikage-kun’s lock." Asuka Jr. then enters the room with several other boys and Meimi wonders if he has already given his lock to someone else. The boys wrap Asuka Jr. in a sack, and Meimi concludes she must be the only one who would want it.
In the chapel a classmate of Meimi is praying. Seira asks her what is troubling her and the girl confides that a friend asked her to approach a boy she liked as ask for his lock. The girl did, but Sawatari, of the school newspaper, took her picture during the hand off of the lock, and she is now afraid that the boy she likes will see the picture and misunderstand it.
Meimi agrees that the film needs to be recovered, and Seira points out they don’t have much time and could Saint Tail send out the challenge before Sawatari develops the film. Seira also suggests that on the day of the festival people will be in costume so two or three Saint Tails won’t be noticeable and Meimi will be able to move about freely.
The next day in homeroom Meimi’s group of friends surprise her with a Saint Tail costume they made for her and they try to put it on her. Asuka Jr. arrives and shouts at them for crushing the image of Saint Tail. Meimi takes this as a person slight and after casting off the Saint Tail costume confronts Asuka Jr. with a broom, demanding an explanation. Just then Sawatari takes their picture. Unhappy with the final shot he gives them the Polaroid picture, which Meimi exchanges for the Saint Tail challenge.
Asuka Jr. wants to protect the film, but Sawatari, unhappy with the attention, tells him he can look after his own property. After Asuka Jr. leaves Sawatari decides to hide the film, but that it will be all right in his locker for the moment. At his locker, however, are three girls who have placed locks on his locker, in the hopes of dancing with him at the festival. Since he can’t get into the locker he looks around and notices Asuka Jr.’s locker isn’t locked. He puts the film in it, meaning to close but not lock it. But Takamiya arrives and begins questioning him as to why he is in Asuka Jr.’s locker. In the heat of the moment Sawatari’s hand closes and the locker is now locked. He’s upset because he now can’t get the film, and Takamiya is upset because she wanted the lock.
Back in homeroom Takamiya is complaining about Sawatari and his strange scoops when it dawns on Meimi and Asuka Jr. that the film must be in Asuka Jr.’s locker. Takamiya then asks for the lock, when next Asuka Jr. opens it, but he says he’s forgotten the combination. For a fleeting moment Meimi had thought he meant to offer it to her, but…
Eye Catch…
We return to the festival opening. People are indeed in costume. In the homeroom, which has been turned into a café, the girls are wondering where Meimi is. We then see her in the chapel, transforming into Saint Tail.
Back at the festival it’s not night time and people are randomly shouting the whereabouts of Saint Tail. We see a group of three girls on stage as the ‘Saint Tail Group’, and a room full of wannabes with a banner saying, "Gather here to make 1,000 Saint Tails". Asuka Jr. is running between these places, hoping to catch her, and is only making himself tired by the exercise. Saint Tail, the real Saint Tail, then points and says, "It’s that Saint Tail?" and off he runs.
In the locker room Saint Tail uses a card trick to open Asuka Jr.’s locker and gets the film. Just then an announcement is heard about the upcoming folk dance. Bending, Saint Tail picks up the locker and considers, is it a legend, or fact?
Suddenly Asuka Jr. and Sawatari are at the door, there to reclaim the film. Asuka Jr. rushes in, followed closely by the photographer. Saint Tail leaped up on top of the locker, conjures her hat and animates some unused carnival costumes, thereby blocking the young men from her. Asuka Jr. accuses her of not playing fair, and Saint Tail asks him for his locker. He says she’s welcome to it, if only she’ll give him a fair challenge. She thanks him, escapes through a window and leaps to the roof, adding his lock to the rest on the east side fence. Asuka Jr. arrives, and Sawatari calls her name, drawing the attention of the student body. As the two young men rush towards her she magically bundles them into sacks and addresses the crowd below. Apologizing for causing a disturbance Saint Tail floats her fellow classmate out over the roof, high above the crowd. Sawatari yells to her to let them down, and producing a white sheet Saint Tail whirls behind it, disappearing. The sheet then covers the two floating boys, making them disappear as well.
A girl in the crowd reaches into her pocket and pulls out the roll of film with a note which says, "I’ll give it back to you."
We then see Meimi, in school uniform, snap her finger, and the boys reappear, looking rather disheveled. Asuka Jr. groans that she’s done it to him again. Just then a boy approaches Meimi and asks her if she’s lone, would she like to dance with him? Meimi is at a loss for words as she had had Asuka Jr. in mind. Asuka Jr. unwittingly comes to her rescue by angrily dragging her away. As he’s pulling her she complains that he’s hurting her, at which point he rounds on her, demanding to know why she can’t say no to this guy, but can make him dangle on a hook. He tells her to just speak clearly when she’s not interested. She smiles at him and agrees. Asuka Jr. then realizes what he’s said, and that he’s still holding her hand, and he blushes. It accurse to him that she just might not hate him. The scene ends with Meimi telling us the legend it true, as they dance together around the bonfire.
Sawatari vows, as the episode ends, that he will revenge himself on Saint Tail.
