Kaitou Saint Tail - April 1997 Comic Fans, Chapter 13
A golden mirror has the reflection of St. Tail with her hair down, both hands holding her hair ribbon. "One day, he'll finally notice! About how I've always been by his side..."
Manato Sawatari, walking home whistling, when he heard a voice, "Hey! Move faster!" He sees two men carrying a golden mirror out of someone's house.
"That old lady wouldn't dare let the news of this mirror being stolen out in public. We only have to steal it, take it to the Thursday auction, and it'll be ours." The first man said.
The second guy nodded, "If we could sell it with a high price, then that would be even better."
'What?!' Sawatari thought to himself.
The thieves get into the car. "Hey! What about the owner's certificate?"
"I got that already." The other guy held up the certificate. "Hurry up and get in the car!"
'Stealing something...!?' Sawatari took his camera and took a picture of the car. He put down his camera, 'That's big news...!!'
At St. Paulia Church...
"Wow!" Seira-as-a-sister exclaimed as she looked at the picture. "What a beautiful mirror!"
The old lady sitting with Seira said, "This is the mirror made in the 17th century, Princess Rosa's Mirror. And actually, the owner's certificate was stolen along with the mirror... To have the princess's mirror with the beautiful legend... I think all of the world's antique collectors would want it. If the news of this was made public, I think it would cause a commotion." The old lady clasped her hands together, "All I want... is to live in peace with this mirror..."
"Then, you didn't report this to the police..." Seira asked.
"You're right, I didn't... I just hope it will come back to me without any trouble..."
Seira smiled slightly, "I understand... let's pray together! The Lord will protect you....!"
The next morning at St. Paulia Church...
Seira was telling Meimi about the mirror in the confessional.
"Then..." Meimi stopped. "Do you know who stole it?"
Seira held up a picture of the two men. "Um... it should be those two, because they've always wanted the mirror, so she says it shouldn't be wrong... Last night, the two of them went to her house, and after they left, the mirror was gone... She said that before the two of them left, she was sure that the mirror was still there!"
"If we're going to get that back," Seira continued, "We're going to have to investigate about the mirror..."
Meimi held up her hand in a 'V' gesture. "Let Kaitou Saint Tail handle this!!"
The next morning at St. Paulia Academy...
"Hahaha, Haneoka-san! Good morning!" A very cheerful Sawatari ran towards Meimi with stacks of papers. "A very exciting morning, ne?"
Asuka Jr., Seira, and Meimi crowded around Sawatari. "Wow! This is the newest edition of the school newspaper!" Meimi exclaimed.
"Look at it! The story on the top is my big news article!" Sawatari said arrogantly. The headline was 'The Mirror Stolen From an Expensive Mansion... Is the Thief Kaitou Saint Tail!?'
Sawatari pushed his bangs up with one hand, grinning in a snobby way, "Incredible, ne? Then this would let Kaitou Saint Tail have a shock! Haha! About this, there are many more secrets in my hands!"
Meimi and Asuka Jr. each clamped a hand on Sawatari's shoulders and shoved him back towards the window while
Sawatari was going "Eh? Huh? Eh?"
"What do you want?" Sawatari glared at Asuka. Side note: Stop it!
"Hey! Monkey!" Asuka Jr. shot back.
"WHO'S the MONKEY.....!?!?"
Side note: You don't have the right to call me this.. ah!!!
"Would Kaitou St. Tail do something like this!?" Asuka pulled Sawatari by his tie towards him. "If you don't have any evidence, then don't publish it!!"
"Uh..." went Meimi, "Right... right!! If you don't have any evidence and publish it, you'll get what you deserve!!" (It's actually not 'what you deserve', it's more like revenge as in karma and all that but then that sounds weird...)
Seira put her hands in a praying position, "It's better to cancel this whole thing!"
Asuka Jr. watches as Meimi talks anxiously to Sawatari, "....? She's so serious about this!"
"You two..." Sawatari pushed his bangs up with his hand, "News reporters are risking their lives to report! No one can stop me."
'I don't understand!' Meimi clenched her hands into fists, 'This guy... since the situation's like this already...'
Something exploded on top of Asuka Jr.'s head, and when the smoke cleared, a St. Tail doll with a note appeared with the message:
I will go take "Princess Rosa's Mirror". St. Tail.
Asuka Jr., Seira, and Sawatari were kinda shocked looking (and Seira's supposed to know about this!!) while Meimi's face turned completely red, with a side note pointing to her: Embarrassed
"It's.. it's a letter from Kaitou Saint Tail!" Sawatari exclaimed and took the note from Asuka's head.
Asuka turned his head, "Hey! Give it back!!"
"Big..." Sawatari exclaimed while reading the note, "Big news..." He suddenly turned and started running away,
"Everyone! I'm sorry! I have to go and change the front page news!!" and the words 'Hahaha' and 'Byebye' surrounded him.Side note from Meimi and Asuka: Isn't he going to class?
Seira whispered to Meimi, "Manato-san seems to know something." Meimi answered, "Okay!" and thought to herself, 'I must find it out somehow.....!'
In the newspaper department of the school...
'Where's that guy Manato?' Asuka Jr. thought to himself as he waited outside the door, 'And he's not in the classroom...' He notices two people walking towards the news department.
'Manato and... Haneoka...?' Asuka thought to himself while Sawatari was exclaiming to Meimi "I never knew that Haneoka-san had an interest in newspaper publishing!"
Asuka turned behind another wall, so that Meimi and Sawatari wouldn't see him, "If you like, you can visit the newsroom. We especially welcome girls!" Sawatari opened the door for Meimi.
'Eh? Uh?!' Asuka Jr. thought to himself, 'Why am I hiding....' He leaned towards the door and heard Meimi exclaim, "Wow...! This is Manato-san's camera?" Side note: It's so pretty!
Inside the newsroom, Meimi was holding some photos in her right hand, "Ah...! The photos you took look like this? So incredible...!!"
"There's more, do you want to see them?" Sawatari pointed to where the photos were drying. (Turns out that the newsroom is a darkroom for developing photos too...)
"Yeah!!" Meimi exclaimed. Side note: You take landscape photos too?
Asuka Jr., still hiding somewhere near the newsroom, was hearing their every word- 'Um, I don't think I should go in...' he thought to herself, 'But isn't t- this eavesdropping...?'
'This wonderful performance shouldn't be unnatural, right...?' Meimi thought. Side note with an arrow pointing in Meimi: Unnatural! "Ri-right! Um, about that article about the mirror..." she started.
Sawatari suddenly grabbed her hands and held them, "Han... Haneoka-san!!"
'Huh?' Meimi thought, getting kinda freaked, 'What's wrong with this person?' Meimi said, "Wait......"
"I'm so happy!!" Sawatari said, with mini four-pointed stars surrounding him. "It's always been that the girls who liked me only liked me for my handsome looks..." He brushed his bangs back and smiled arrogantly, and grabbed her hands again, "But you are the one that cares about everything I do!!"
Meimi, with a sweatdrop on her head, "Wait... it's not..." 'What am I supposed to do?' Meimi thought.
"Haneoka-san, if you don't mind, can you date..." Sawatari never got to finish his sentence, because suddenly Asuka Jr. opened the door and banged a janitor's bucket on Sawatari's head. Side note in a sideways banner form: Good children don't copy this!
"Monkey, I have something to ask you," Asuka said.
"I REFUSE!" Sawatari shouted, and started waving his arms frantically, "I don't want to have any relationship with you!" Meimi Side Note: Is he (Asuka Jr.) jealous...???
Asuka asked Sawatari, "About that mirror, do you have any other information about it?"
'No way...' Meimi thought to herself.
Sawatari brushed his hair back again, "I'm so sorry, newspaper reporters' mouths are shut. Even if we have to risk our lives for it..."
"Ah! I want to know more!" Meimi thought, 'This is a good chance to ask!' "Is it a pretty mirror?"
Sawatari grabbed her hands yet AGAIN, "Yes! Actually this mirror, has a princess legend about it!"
Asuka Jr. made a terrible face behind Meimi at Sawatari, "......"
"I guess I'll have to tell you too..." Sawatari muttered. Side note: Huh! Creep...
"This mirror has the legend of Princess Rosa." Sawatari started, "And from my research, that time Princess Rosa... she met and fell in love with a mirror-maker. Once, the princess, sick of how they had to meet secretly since he wasn't a noble, pleaded with the young man to make a 'Mirror that wouldn't reflect a princess, but who I really am!' Then, after the mirror was finished and delivered to the castle, the princess left the castle, everything, only took the mirror to marry the mirror-maker. Legend has it that she lived happy days forever... after that the legend says that the females who have this mirror would have happiness."
'It can reflect my true self...' Meimi thought, and secretly looked over at Asuka Jr. "Not Kaitou Saint Tail's costume, but...' 'Reflect my true self...'
Sawatari said, "So that's why, all of the world's antique collectors... especially women, everybody wants this mirror. I heard that no one can even estimate how much the mirror is worth!"
"Why would Kaitou St. Tail want that mirror...?" Asuka said to himself.
'He...' Meimi thought to herself sadly, 'So his whole head is filled with Kaitou St. Tail...'
"Now that I don't know..." Sawatari said, "This is a very secret news item, it seems that the mirror is going to be auctioned off."
Meimi and Asuka Jr. both turned to Sawatari, "You said what...!?!"
At St. Paulia Church...
A shadowed Meimi holds up the magician's hat, "God...! Please protect us so things can go successfully..."
"One! Two... Three!" Meimi transformed into St. Tail, and Ruby had a little bow on top of her head.
Ruby called out, "Ji!" (It's the Chinese word for animal squeaks, squawks, etc. kinda like the English 'Cheep!', rhymes with 'see', not 'jai')
"Ruby!" St. Tail laughed, holding the porcupine in her hands, "I have to go now!" Side note pointing to Ruby, who was also laughing: Because she's dressed like Meimi, she also seems to be very happy.
St. Tail turned to Seira, "Seira, I have something to ask you... can something that's stolen be taken to be auctioned off?"
"Usually, it's not allowed... but, because the thieves had stole the owner's certificate..." Seira trailed off.
"Means they can..." St. Tail finished. She handed Ruby, who was going "Ji??" to Seira, "Take care of Ruby for me."
Seira answered, "Okay." and they prayed, "We wish the Lord would protect us, that everything will be successful..."
At the auction place...
Asuka Jr. stood with the security guards as there was an announcement, "And now, as everybody can see, this violin is auctioned to him."
"Don't get in my way..." Asuka told Sawatari, who was standing beside him at the entrance.
Sawatari held up his camera and took pictures, "I'm the one who told you it'd be here, at least you can let me stand here!"
The announcement system went on, "And next, it's the item everyone's been waiting for, the most important antique. Finally, this is 'Princess Rosa's Mirror'. "
"That's...!" The crowd exclaimed. "What an oppurtunity!"
The auction room's lights suddenly go off, leaving the audience in the dark...
"!!" went Asuka and Sawatari. Flowers started falling from above.
"This kind of flower... it's called Princess Rosa!!" A man exclaimed. "It's that nation's official flower..."
Asuka looked up, 'At the rooftop!!' he thought, seeing St. Tail standing on top of the crystal lights. 'Kaitou Saint Tail!'
The announcement came on, "Everyone!! Please be quiet... everybody be quiet!!"
"Good evening!" St. Tail called out, "I'm so sorry I scared everybody!!"
The audience got more scared, "What's this voice? Is this the Princess's spirit???"
'We've been defeated on the stage before,' Asuka thought as he ordered the security guards to look after the mirror, 'This time we'll watch where the audience is...'
St. Tail looked down, searching for the two men, "That mirror was stolen!!" she called, "It must be given back to the real owner!!" 'There! There's the thieves!' she thought.
"Brother! Someone found out...!" The younger one said, scared.
Asuka looked at St. Tail, 'It was stolen...! Then, you are...!'
St. Tail winked and pointed at the stage lights. "One!" The lights turned on, "Two..." The lights got brighter, "Three!!" The lights shined at the mirror, making the mirror reflect all the light and blinding everybody.
"Wa..." Asuka Jr. covered his eyes, 'The mirror reflection...'
St. Tail, wearing sunglasses, made rope rise from her hat and wrap around the two brothers.
"Brother!" the younger one called, "Waaa...!" the older one shouted.
"One!" Biting on a knife in her mouth, and holding one between two fingers, St. Tail counted, "Two..."
"Three!!" The brothers screamed as the knives flew towards them.
Asuka Jr. uncovered his eyes a bit, 'Where is she?' he thought, and saw her going to the mirror. He watched as she got closer to the mirror, then St. Tail looking at herself in the mirror. He uncovered his hand completely and saw the reflection of Haneoka Meimi in the mirror.
'...' Asuka Jr. thought, 'Reflects their true self...' but then the light got brighter again and he had to cover his eyes. The light suddenly disappeared, along with the mirror.
"Uh..." An old lady fainted while another guy pointed at the stage, "Hey... look at the stage carefully...!!"
Asuka and Sawatari both turned to look at the stage, and saw the two brothers (who fainted dead away... ) each up on one side of the curtains, with knives stabbed through their clothes and holding then up with a note in the older brother's mouth:
I did take "Princess Rosa's Mirror". St. Tail
"Argh! That bright light made it impossible to take pictures!" Sawatari moaned, "Now what should I do about my big news?"
Asuka Jr. answered, "That means you shouldn't publish it...!"
"Huh?" Sawatari looked at Asuka, but Asuka Jr. was staring intently, thinking.
'What... what was that?' Asuka thought.
The next morning at St. Paulia Academy...
The manga shows St. Paulia Times, the school paper with the article headline "Kaitou Saint Tail! Caused disruptions at the auction!" with a bunch of students crowded around the newspaper.
"What a ruthless person...!" Seira thought to herself as she read the article.
Somewhere else inside the Academy...
"Good morning... Meimi." Ryoko said, "Your hair is very pretty today!"
Meimi smiled, "Ah...?" She took her compact mirror out, "Heehee," she giggled, "Really?"
She sees Asuka Jr.'s reflection in her mirror, coming towards her. She turned (very pretty picture!) and looked at him.
"Did you go to the auction last night?" Asuka Jr. asked, looking at her kinda mean-ish.
'Uh!' Meimi thought to herself.
"That..." she mumbled, "That's..."
'Did he find out...!?' she thought. 'I... am Kaitou St. Tail...' she turned red. "Why..." she looked up at him, "Why would you ask?"
'How am I supposed to answer?' Asuka thought, 'Because I have no evidence. But the person in the mirror didn't have a ponytail...'
He started walking away, "I was just asking..."
'I just didn't see right.' Asuka shook his head, 'But, if I did see wrong, why...' he looks at Meimi, still standing in the
hall, clutching her mirror,
'Why would that person be Haneoka?.....'
